Three Pillars: Second Chance

Session 9

| Darkness and Light | The Tainted Past |

The Tainted Past

The Flaming One

And so it begins...

The Flaming One

France, home of the French. Really.

The Flaming One

Sara, you're studying.

The Flaming One

Dina, you're not. What'chya doin'?

Dina O'Shire

<ooc: i blame the french>

Dina O'Shire

checking those pics in the fortean times again- does it look like they're taken from an angle she was standing at? like snapshots through her eyes?

The Flaming One

No. They don't. They are not your pictures.

Dina O'Shire

<right, not her pics, but are they possibly from an angle SHE would have been looking through- like captured directly from her mind?>

The Flaming One

Dina, the paranoid. No, you don't think so.

The Flaming One

(or maybe you do, you paranoid freak).

Matthew Hammer

<Dina is going to start going off about the conspiracy against the Flat Earth society>

The Flaming One

(ooc: Are you happy, Citizen?)

Dina O'Shire

<in that case, she'll continue to be paranoid, look up the reporter's number and go give him a call from one of the campsite's phones...>

The Flaming One

The "campsite phone" is in Kittemer's "office." Luckily, he is busy w/ the dig, so you have it to yourself. It is a large satillite model, but non-military tech.

Dina O'Shire

<is it policy for students to use it? or should she ask him first? (not that she will or anything, just wondering)>

The Flaming One

After making sure no one is looking, you can Mr. Cohen (people ask first. It costs the University money, you know).

Dina O'Shire

<and what is the name of the reporter? that daniel cohen sex guy?>

The Flaming One

The phone rings...

The Flaming One

[private to Justin Robinson-Prickett] Mr. Cohen?

Dina O'Shire

<in that case, on her way to the phone she'll holler at kittemer:> aye there! iff'n ye be aneedin' me, i'm a-gonna be checkin' out sum stuff <then run off quickly without waiting for his reply!>

Dina O'Shire

<she answers it> ello?

The Flaming One

No, you're calling, dingleberry!

The Flaming One

The phone is rining at the other end...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Daniel Cohen, you got a story?

Dina O'Shire

<ooc: damn, was hoping i could get some private info on kitty from his wife or something!!!>

The Flaming One

Dina?

Dina O'Shire

mayhap i do... i'm a-callin' from tha dig 'ere near tha abbey- the'un ye all did tha report on las' week...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Uh... I'm sorry, Miss. Could you enunciate a little?"

Dina O'Shire

now looky-'ere! ye want sum good deets er wha!?! mayhap we should be a-chantin' in private like, nah too much time 'ere, ye know?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Uh, ma'am... consonants are your friends."

Dina O'Shire

aye, an'na patience shou' be a-bein' yers!!! can ye get ta town quick-like? mayhap be meetin' in yer office er sum-such?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"What? I'm sorry, ma'am, I need a little help, here. I have a very important story. There's something under an abbey..."

Dina O'Shire

aye! thass wha i'm a-tryin' ta tell ye abou'!!! ye be wantin' tha inside scoop er wha?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Okay, I understood 'scoop.' You got a scoop you can share? And a translator?"

Dina O'Shire

aye... an'na mayhap sum pictures too, iff'n tha price be right... where ye at? lemme come by yer office, i'll write it all down fer ye <quietly and in heavy brogue> lackin' tha brains tha ye seem ta an' all...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Uh... I missed all of that, ma'am. How about you meet me at <name of French bar> and you can talk slow."

The Flaming One

(You've been there. Ouch!)

Dina O'Shire

aye, i be knowin' where tha place be... <she grimaces a bit and rubs her elbow> in an 'our so?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Yes, yes, they have beer there, ma'am. Meet you in an hour?"

Dina O'Shire

aye... an' donnae worry- i be knowin' wha ye look like... see ye then... <she hangs up quickly and looks around her>

The Flaming One

Dina: There is no one in the tent you can see.

The Flaming One

Sara: You keep the book w/ you at night in your room, correct? Where exactly?

Dina O'Shire

<excellent- she will run to her tent and grab a few of the less-developed autopsy photos and hop on her bike>

The Flaming One

Dina: Where did you leave your pictures? DId you lock them? Did you lock the corpse?

Matthew Hammer

On a nightstand right next to her bed when she's sleeping

The Flaming One

Dina: You putter around on your moped. You have plenty of time to wait, so you find a nice place where you can see everything.

The Flaming One

Sara: Check. Your (still nameless! I'll think of something) American Companion sleeps in a neighboring room.

Matthew Hammer

poor guy

Dina O'Shire

<the photos were just keep in a binder in her backpack in her tent and yes, she sits in bar, lights a smoke, and waits and watches for ANY familiar faces...>

The Flaming One

Dina: About a half hour into your wait, you notice a familiar person. You think it's William. He goes to bar as if waiting for someone.

Dina O'Shire

<she ducks a bit further down in the booth and watches him carefully, pulling her green scarf tight around her hair and tipping the brim of her hat low...>

The Flaming One

After about 5 minutes, you notice another familiar face. Its the woman. When she see's William, she smiles. William smiles as well, but much broader. Both sit at the bar.

Dina O'Shire

<okay, gonna try that eavesdropping rote if she can't hear them clearly- lemme look it up...>

The Flaming One

Forces 2 to amplify the sound of their speach?

The Flaming One

Course, that'll make it louder for anyone near you...

The Flaming One

Unless you really precise...

The Flaming One

I'll learn to type grammatically one day.

Dina O'Shire

<yup that's the one- and actually, the way she focuses it, the sound is 'blown' towards her, possibly making those two's conversation hard to hear for each other if she isn't very precise! but your ruling, ummm, rules i suppose ;) >

The Flaming One

While you a fumbling around, you notice William give the girl a small box of something.

The Flaming One

Gonna role, Dina'lign?

Dina O'Shire

<dina takes the willow wand out of her pocket and begins the rote softly...>

The Flaming One

Make a dex+subterfuge roll (if you're trying not to be noticed), diff 6 and you're arete roll.

Dina O'Shire

<yep- gotta get my damn dice- crap i'm so unprepared! sorry, long day after a long hangover after being longly sick... brb>

The Flaming One

Sigh. Teddy, the source if information I don't want to know.

Penny Gronbeck

hey, at least he's not telling us he's naked...

The Flaming One

Sara: George, one of the graduate students, stops by later that evening, telling you that the tests were favorable and that they will start the dig tommorrow.

The Flaming One

Penny: Okay, you got me there.

Dina O'Shire

<the dex + sub = 7, 1, 2, 8, 6, 7, 5>

Dina O'Shire

<arete= 10, 1, 7>

Matthew Hammer

Coo.

The Flaming One

Dina: You feel the magic flow through you as you try to focus on the sound. It becomes somewhat louder, about a muffled stage whisper, but you can make out bits a pieces.

Dina O'Shire

<she listens intently...>

The Flaming One

Dina: The girl holds Williams hands for a second after receiving the gift. You believe she thanks him, that she appreciates that "he cares so much about her." William obviously beams at this statement.

Dina O'Shire

<thinking to herself> wha a blimey jack-a-ninny!

The Flaming One

William blather's some sort of things about how beautiful she is and what not (roll per+subterfuge, diff 7).

Dina O'Shire

<1 success on that>

The Flaming One

The girl smiles at William's remark. Perhaps she likes him more than you thought. She must have asked him about work, becuase he starts talking about "Kittemer" and "being bored to tears" but "going home soon" because "we're finally digging tommorow" or something similar.

Dina O'Shire

<dina will continue to eavesdrop and concentrate on the conversation, but slowly begin to gather her belongings and leave some cash on the table, in case she needs to leave quickly and tail the girl...>

The Flaming One

The girl seems to ask if she can watch, and William nods a foolish nod. She smiles at him again and brushes her lips against his real quickly. With that, she get's up to leave.

Dina O'Shire

<a short look of disgust crosses dina's face as she prepares to get up and tail the girl... for the second time... geez she's such a stalker...>

The Flaming One

The girl leaves. YOu begin to follow her. On the way out, however, you bump into someone. When you look at him, you recognize Mr. Cohen.

Matthew Hammer

(Awww, I thought she was going to forget him entirely)

Dina O'Shire

<as she bumps cohen, she attempts to pick his pocket, shere his wallet should be... (didn't see that coming, did ya!?!) >

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Excuse me there, ma'am."

The Flaming One

Dex+Subterfuge, diff 7

Dina O'Shire

<in her best french accent> wee, monsieur- pardon moi...

The Flaming One

[Its not the best accent you heard]

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Uh... I speak English..."

Dina O'Shire

<oh hell yes! 10, 10, 7, 9, 9, 6, 1>

Penny Gronbeck

(the french is lousy too...)

Dina O'Shire

<keeps her head down and continues to tail the girl...>

The Flaming One

Damn, good roll. You think you managed to grab something on your way out.

The Flaming One

Dina: As you look around, however, it appears you bump was just enough to distract you enough to loose the girl.

Dina O'Shire

<she pockets it and continues to follow ms. priss, much more carefully this time...>

Dina O'Shire

<oh damn, never mind... is william still around? which way did each of them head, as far aas she could tell?>

The Flaming One

William is still in the bar.

The Flaming One

Dina: Do you have any plans to see Sara tonight?

Dina O'Shire

<thinking to herself 'damn, guess the third time better be the charm', she walks out of the bar and stands by a window, looking in and waiting for william to leave...>

Dina O'Shire

<re: sara- only with time permitting, it all depends on what she can dig up here- you can do matt now, if you want and let him sleep- iss all good! ;) >

The Flaming One

Dina: You wait a few minutes and William doesn't show up. After a moment, you peak in. It appears Mr. Cohen and William are having a converstation. One must have recognized the other.

Matthew Hammer

[private]Don't cut out on Dina on my account. I'm good waiting for the moment.

Dina O'Shire

<she smiles in spite of herself and will sneak back in, attempting to listen and hiding herself from william as much as possible... btw, is there a clothes shoppe around, nearby? where hse could duck in, buy a new shirt abd put it on quickly in the bathroom?>

The Flaming One

Dina: Its getting towards evening. Nothing next door, anyway. As you start in, you notice Cohen ordering a drink and reaching for where his wallet should be.

Dina O'Shire

<fine with her... she runs to the bathroom and attempts to rearrange her current clothing- hat off, green scarf tucked in her purse, and taking her flannel off, so there's just a white tshirt she's been weraingunderneath it- like that pic i sent>

The Flaming One

Roll me a Man+Subterfuge, diff 7 as you try to rearrange yourself.

Dina O'Shire

<oh hell! she remembers she is a master of life magick and cuts her self, running the blood through her hair and over her face, attemptig to change color and appearance...>

Dina O'Shire

<2 successes on the mundane subterfuge...>

Dina O'Shire

<p.s. she's in a stall, obviously>

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"master" - wishful thinking at its best!

Dina O'Shire

<ooc: well, as far as SHE's concerned, anyways!>

The Flaming One

Now you tell me, miss non-"master." Roll (diff 7()

Dina O'Shire

<not so bad- 3, 9, 10>

The Flaming One

A quick glance in the mirror shows some minor changes. YOu aren't "you" ,but you're not way off either. Might work in a smoky bar.

Dina O'Shire

<she musses herself a bit in front of the mirror, then heads back to the bar area...>

The Flaming One

Cohen is looking agitated, and is on the phone, yelling at it. William is no where to be seen.

Dina O'Shire

<she waits... thinking what the 'instant redial' buttons are for france... and listening to cohen's yelling, waiting idly nearby...>

The Flaming One

He's complaining about a lost wallet, and trying to describe you. The description isn't half bad, the man has a good eye. Must be all the reporting.

Dina O'Shire

<point taken... she taps him on the shoulder..> mr. cohen?

The Flaming One

he looks over in your direction for a moment, half stares at you, then shakes his head and continues arguing with the officials.

The Flaming One

That was before the tap.

Dina O'Shire

<i figured!>

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Hang on, there, ma'am, I'll be off in a bit!"

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Redhead, looked like that broad on X-Files!"

Dina O'Shire

ummm... i'm tha one ye... you'rre suppos'd too be meetin'..ing...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"You are? Hang on! My wallet got stolen!"

Dina O'Shire

well then iff i'm ta be... buying drinks, you'll hafta pay good for me pics... now come on- i 'aven't much time, you see...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Just a minute! I'm talking to the cops!"

Dina O'Shire

what! tha coppers!?! <she looks around nervously> doncha be a-bringing them, ah... hhhere.. <she's really trying hard to tone down her accent>

Justin Robinson-Prickett

When Cohen finishes, he hangs up and looks Dina up and down with ratlike eyes.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Scared of the coppers, eh? Come on, there's a booth open."

Dina O'Shire

<she sits calmly down> i'm naht so sccared of 'em as i jes donnae want ta be seen by the others 'ere...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Whatever... tell me or not. What have you got?"

Dina O'Shire

<she keeps her hands in her lap and over her purse- she doesn't trust this guy> well, i'm on tha dig, ye see, an' they ain't a-paying what they were a-sayin' an' so i, uh, sneaked a few pics from that doctor broad they've got...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Okay. Now I believe you're the dame who called me. Can't understand a word."

Dina O'Shire

<looking a little frustrated> look, i be needin' ta know where ye got tha last story from... i know ye've got some hippocratic oath nah ta tell me er sumfing, buh a couple o' us 'ad already decided to snitch an' then yer story breaks an i wanna know who tol' you about it before we three of us agreed to blab... ye see what i'm sayin?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"I see. I'm not going to tell you, though."

Dina O'Shire

of course yer not... william was sayin' ye wouldn't...

Dina O'Shire

no matter, i still got sum pics i'd like ta sell, as well as some more ta tell...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Did he? That's nice."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Well, as my wallet was stolen... do you accept Visa?"

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Nope... that was in the wallet, too. Damn."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"I can trade sexual favors."

Dina O'Shire

see, i wanna be a reporter too an'na mayhap ye could 'elp me with that? an donnae worry abou' tha money now- i'll tel ye a story bout tha goings on after we agree to a price and then we ca' meet later and exchange tha pics fer money...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"You can't be for real. Sorry, ma'am, but I'm going to be leaving."

Dina O'Shire

<at sexual favors, she looks him in the eye> mayhap... mayhap...

Dina O'Shire

aye, leavin' then... fine i'll jus go somewhere else and scoop ye...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Cohen gets up, giving her a last once over. "You related to that doctor chick? Look like sisters or something..."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

He grins, showing off a mouthful of baby teeth. "I doubt that, ma'am."

Dina O'Shire

nay, buh peope always tell us we look alike- thass why i was asked ta helpp- so as we could pin tha blab on her iff'n we got caught, ye know? pretty smart, eh?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Yeah. You're like James Bond or something. A superspy."

Dina O'Shire

ann'na why ye so sure of yer scoop aye? ye cannae 'ave any'un onna tha inside! we was suppose'd ta be tha only ones...

Dina O'Shire

well, ne'er mind then... we'll see who scoops 'oo i suppose... gahday ta ye... <she gets up to leave>

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Cohen looks at her once again, shakes his head, and leaves.

The Flaming One

K. What next, Dina?

Dina O'Shire

<first, dina goes to the bathroom and looks at her changed appearance very carefully, in case she ever needs to duplicate it, then leaves- back to camp to track down sara!>

The Flaming One

Okay, you feel the appearance slowly fading. Its getting pretty late, you you suspect that she is in her room.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]Cohen's gonna want to go back to the dig after dark and snoop around.

Dina O'Shire

<not that she's been there for the past week! she goes there first anyways...>

The Flaming One

[private to Justin Robinson-Prickett] Check.

The Flaming One

[private to Matthew Hammer] You going to be there this time? Its late evening your time.

Matthew Hammer

[private]If it is late enough to be going to bed she will. Otherwise if she's still working she will be wherever she's found to work.

The Flaming One

As you walk, you notice that the digging equipment has been moved. Looks like they are getting ready for something.

The Flaming One

YOu get to Sara's room. Its late, but you knock anyway.

The Flaming One

[private to Matthew Hammer] You're probably there, then.

Matthew Hammer

[private]K

Matthew Hammer

"Come in."

The Flaming One

That's you, Dina.

Dina O'Shire

<walking in slowly> aye! so there ye be! been a-lookin' fer ye all week, i 'ave!

Dina O'Shire

<ooc: sorry, getting coffee... my bad, i'm back now, obviously...>

Matthew Hammer

<looking slightly annoyed> "Oh, it's you."

Dina O'Shire

<completely doesn't realise they have been 'fighting' the past week> aye, i's me? so wha' ye up ta? big developments in our case, ye know...

Matthew Hammer

"And what would that be?"

Dina O'Shire

well, fer one, william's been a-meetin' clandestine-like with some chickee-dee from tha city, i talked ta mr. forte 'imself today, an' it seems liken ta him an william were tha best o' buds, it did! wha ye think onna tha?

Dina O'Shire

<she's very proud of herself>

Matthew Hammer

"So WIlliam has a lasy friend. That's sinister. As far as Mr. Forte . . . who's that?"

Dina O'Shire

ye know, tha daniel cohen feller, the'un tha was a-printin all our pics an' such...

Dina O'Shire

<dina begins to wander around the room, blithely picking stuff up and looking at it, just being nosy>

Matthew Hammer

"Oh. What was William talking to Mr Cohen about? Maybe they just met in a bar or something."

Dina O'Shire

well, i donnae know! i'm nah a bloddy eavsdropper! jus' be seemin' sorta suspicsious like, doncha think?

The Flaming One

(ooc:Anyone else hear the odd couple theme in their heads...)

Dina O'Shire

<ooc: heh! no kidding...>

Matthew Hammer

"How did you find this out about William, anyway?"

Matthew Hammer

(ooc: Did either of the odd couple ever kill the other?)

The Flaming One

(ooc: No, it was a family show)

Dina O'Shire

<looks a bit shameful, bites her lip a bit> aye, well, i be supposin' i do 'ave a bit o' tha eavesdropper in me, aye <nudges sara with her elbow> so, wha' ye been up ta all booky-like? <looks over sara's shoulder, being nosy again>

The Flaming One

tickity..tickity...segue soon...reach conclusions...

Matthew Hammer

"Obviously I've been being 'booky-like'. You know, if William was working with Cohen, why would he need to stage a break-in?"

Matthew Hammer

[private]We could always carry on in Private . .

The Flaming One

[private to Matthew Hammer] Why don't you do that...

Matthew Hammer

[private]okay.

The Flaming One

K, goin' to segue now...

Dina O'Shire

<looks increduously at sara, as if the answer was obvious> ta throw tha investigation off, o' course! so as we wouldnae be seein' wha' was really goin' on... them creepies didnae steal nufing, did they now?

Darkness and Light

The Flaming One

Somewhere in Portland...

The Flaming One

Who you two lovebirds up to? You just finished buying smoe bums off.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Well, time to check out the last address. We need to kill a couple hours...

The Flaming One

Its late as it is.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

How late?

The Flaming One

Lets see. You went to the Portland factory at about 6. You were there for a while then came here. So its about 8:30-9.

Penny Gronbeck

brb

Penny Gronbeck

back. sorry.

The Flaming One

Did you stil want to go there?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Hell yes! In an hour.

Penny Gronbeck

don't want to go too early.

The Flaming One

So, about 9:30pm?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Ten. Damon wants to make out a little.

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy's fine with this.

The Flaming One

Okay... After a little extracurricular activity, you grab another bus...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Yes we do.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon manages to look tortured after this...

The Flaming One

The address is in a lower-middle class part of town. There are small projects all over the place. One of them is your address.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

We look around a bit.

The Flaming One

Its dark. The building is a little run down. But is has a *feeling* about it. Its a low tingle to Ivy, but the almost pulses to Damon.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Does it? What does it look like the spirit world?

Penny Gronbeck

what's the neighborhood like? Are people walking around outside?

The Flaming One

Ivy: It's fairly late, so not many people are out. A few are loitering about the entrances and are eyeing you.

The Flaming One

Damon: Its seems a bit more vibrant here. A bit more active.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Good active or Satan active?

Penny Gronbeck

that 'what are you doing in my neighborhood' kind of eyeing, or that 'I have candy for you' kind of eyeing?

The Flaming One

Ivy: Mostly the former. YOu see one of the other here and there.

The Flaming One

Damon: Hard to tell. But it feels... homey.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Oh, good...

The Flaming One

Well?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon begins approaching.

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy goes with him, but she keeps her attention on the neighbors.

The Flaming One

You walk up the stairs the entrance of this particular building, walking through a clutch of three "neighbors." They are all of African descent.

Penny Gronbeck

"Hi. Scuse us."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon ignores them.

The Flaming One

They half glare at you, but don't make any motion to stop you. Soon you are inside.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Is there a direction to the pulsing?

The Flaming One

The insdie of the building is more run down than the outside. Tiles are missing, some lights are out. It hasn't been cleaned in a while.

The Flaming One

Damon: Roll a Per+Awareness roll, diff 7, to pick up a good direction.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

1 success

The Flaming One

The pulsing is stronger here, You think it is vaguely stronger upstairs.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Ah. Upstairs it is, then.

The Flaming One

You check the address against the list near the front. It appears it is upstairs as well.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Oh. Good.

The Flaming One

You climb a few stories, ignoring a snoring bum on the step.

The Flaming One

You finally get to the correct story. This floor seems cleaner, or at least. less occupied.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Stronger pulsing up here?

The Flaming One

The spirit energy almost hums here. Its strong enough that even Ivy feels a bit of it.

Penny Gronbeck

what's it feel like to her?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon has not spoken since he walked in. His eyes are half-closed and he seems to be feeling the air.

The Flaming One

Ivy: It feels both warm and cold. Not like the morgue.

The Flaming One

Damon: There isn't any activty currently, but you can feel the residue. Something powerful lives nearby, or the spirit life is very active.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Well, gonna find the powerful thing.

The Flaming One

You finally come to the door. The number (406) is almost falling off the wood. The door seems well used.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

To hell with recon!

Justin Robinson-Prickett

I knock.

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy listens for sounds.

The Flaming One

Ivy: You can half-hear the sound of a TV in the distance. It is turned down and footsteps are coming toward the door.

The Flaming One

"Heya now. 'ho be dere?"

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Hello. My name is Damon. Please open the door."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

I take it the spiritual energy is behind this door.

The Flaming One

A reasonable assumption.

The Flaming One

Female Voice, French(?) accent: "Damon? I know no Damon? Why I open da door?"

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Because I asked. Please answer the door."

The Flaming One

There is a pause. Damon, you notice a darkness slip under the door. An inhuman face forms and glances at you a moment. Before you react, it quickly disappears.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"That was strange..."

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy scans the hall. "What?"

The Flaming One

Voice: "Hmph. A boy and 'is girlie. I do not a'know you. Its late. YOu be leaving Miss Routterage alone, you hear?"

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"I'm sorry, miss. I'd like to talk to Mrs. Routterage please. Tell her it has to do with Cassandra Wys."

The Flaming One

Voice: "I know no'a girlie Wys. You getta home, now, you hear?"

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Miss... I'd prefer if you'd let me speak with Mrs. Routerrage."

The Flaming One

Voice: "Hmph. You don't be know'n anything, boy. Miss Routterage doesn't want to speak to you."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Doesn't she. Very well."

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy raises her eyebrows at him.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon walks away from the door. Finally he turns to Ivy.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"That didn't work very well."

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy shakes her head.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Well then. I'll check it out from the Umbra."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Difficulty?

Penny Gronbeck

"Okay... I'll watch."

The Flaming One

To step. Hmm.. that's strange. Its like very easy. :) Diff 4.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

2 successes

The Flaming One

You going to have to continue .. (need 3 to complete). You're almost there.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Got it.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Lousy rolls...

The Flaming One

Okay (sorry, distracted).

The Flaming One

Damon: You push over to the other side. It seems like the original, but more vibrant. More alive.

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy will try to look inconspicuous.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Interesting. Not normal for a project if I'm not mistaken.

The Flaming One

Ivy: Damon pushes against nothing, and then just seems to fade...

The Flaming One

Damon: You'd think that, bu tyou haven't been to *that* many projects.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

True.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon looks around.

The Flaming One

The hallways is currently empty of other beings. However, you feel a sense of.. tension.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Where?

The Flaming One

About. Probably closer to the door.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Ah. I get closer to the door...

The Flaming One

The door sits there. Its pulses a little. Almsot as it is alive.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Oh. I go in.

The Flaming One

You reach for the door. As you do, it twists and forms a maw where you hand would be.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Well, I move away, please.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon keeps his cool, but he's now officially edgy.

The Flaming One

Damon skips back. The door squirms for a moment, then calms down again.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"What are you?"

The Flaming One

Ivy: You here the Voice again. "Hey, you not goin' away, are you? Hey!..." the voice stops.

Penny Gronbeck

Ivy looks at the door. "Still here,"

The Flaming One

Damon: You can half hear what Ivy hears. The door does not answer, but you can tell it is "sensing" you.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Answer me, creature."

The Flaming One

Both: The door opens. You can see a woman. She's of African decent. probably at least 40. She large, and looks like she has had several children. She is wearing some collection of colorful clothing and a lot of jewelry.

Penny Gronbeck

"Hi,"

The Flaming One

Damon: On your side, you can see that here eyes are *alive* . There is a black glow coming coming from there. She looks directly at you.

The Flaming One

Ivy: The woman seems totally oblivious to you.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Good evening." Damon smiles.

The Flaming One

Woman: "I told you. Miss Routterage doesn't wanna speak to you boy. Even if you be a boy with tricks." Her voice is shadowy, but clear on this side.

The Flaming One

Ivy: You can see her mouth move, but the sound is muffled. Very muffled.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"A boy with tricks? Hmm. Perhaps I don't care what you think."

Penny Gronbeck

can I make it out? also, can I scan her with life?

The Flaming One

Ivy: You can scan her. The sound too muffled to make out clearly, even with your senses.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]Charisma + Intimidation... I'm glaring.

Penny Gronbeck

interesting.... okay, that's 9, 6, 4, 3.

The Flaming One

Damon: Ahah, the glare? Make the roll (diff 8).

The Flaming One

Ivy: She's alive. Very alive. You have rarely seen anyone so healthy.

Penny Gronbeck

does she have the thing like Keegan's dog?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

6 successes

The Flaming One

Ivy: Its different.

Penny Gronbeck

different how?

Penny Gronbeck

I take it not like a normal human....

The Flaming One

Damon: Damn, good dice rolls everywhere.

The Flaming One

Ivy: Human. Just a little more so.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]Damon's "scary" merit gave him an extra success...

Penny Gronbeck

and with prime?

Penny Gronbeck

10, 9, 5, 3.

The Flaming One

Damon: You cold stare focuses at the woman. She half-steps back, but then something pulses within her and she settles again, looking at you.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon advances a step. "Why is Mrs. Routterage frightened of a mere boy? For that matter, why are you?"

The Flaming One

Ivy: The glow of magic entagles the woman, a tight nimbus. Its is pulsing.

Penny Gronbeck

so she's awakened?

The Flaming One

Ivy: She's channeling quintessence. That's not always the same thing (though does Ivy know the difference?)

The Flaming One

Woman to Damon (same effect as last time, Ivy can't hear): "You carry a hole in hour soul boy. Miss Routterage does call upon the darkness, but we aren't the darkness."

Penny Gronbeck

(I think Ivy would know the difference.)

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"I'm not the darkness. The darkness is what is eating my friends. Am I such a threat that two of you are frightened?" Damon smiles at her. The smile doesn't touch his eyes.

The Flaming One

Ivy: She's doesn't seem awakened then. But she's doing magic.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon's fingers play over the box, working her spirit into it.

Penny Gronbeck

interesting.... does she have a visible avatar?

The Flaming One

The woman glares at you, twisting at the box. A look of anger crosses her face. "Oh, no, boy. Me spirit be my own." Out of her hands, a bit of darkness flows out, flowing towards you....

The Flaming One

Ivy: None that you can see.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Oh, I've been waiting to rip a soul apart all damn day. Bring it on, woman."

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon prepares for spiritual combat...

The Flaming One

Ding: Round 1, 'ight! ;p

The Flaming One

You can see it coming Damon, what you doing?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Countermagick. Offensive countermagick as per the rulebook. Can't channel magic when you have no Prime (Prime 2, Spirit 1)

Penny Gronbeck

what can I see behind her, in the apartment?

The Flaming One

Damon: I forget the specifics. You are attacking the affect that is coming at you?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Basically, yeah. I'm removing its likely source of energy. I can throw a little Entropy, too if you like ;)

The Flaming One

Ivy: What little you can see: It seems well decorated. Several skull type or other strange type of artefacts. Voodoo?

Penny Gronbeck

fits with the accent...

The Flaming One

Damon: You'd know something. The black isn't a spirit effect. Its a Spirit.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Oh. I kill it then.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Spirit 3.

The Flaming One

Okay. Roll it then.

The Flaming One

Damon: Diff 6 (coincedental)

Justin Robinson-Prickett

3 successes at diff 7.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

3

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Oh wait. With Medium... 4

Penny Gronbeck

I assume Ivy can't tell this woman is trying to mess up her boyfriend?

The Flaming One

Ivy: You're pretty much oblivious. ;p

Penny Gronbeck

ah well.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Gotta teach her Spirit 1...

The Flaming One

Damon: You channel your enegry toward the spirit. It writhes as you grasp at it spiritually... with a scream, it dissapates.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"That was pretty funny. Do you spray me with seltzer as an encore?"

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Step aside before you do something I find more than amusing."

The Flaming One

Damon: The woman glares at you. Then she smiles, a cold smile similar to you own. Suddenly, the darkness flows out her her eyes, forming a miasma of blackness that floats just steps before you. The woman turns to Ivy.

The Flaming One

Ivy: The woman turns to you, a very cold smile on her face. She's looking directly at you.

Penny Gronbeck

how's my spidey sense?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon sighs...

The Flaming One

Oh, its off-scale.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Damon would like to summon something...

The Flaming One

Okay, you do that, boy-o.

The Flaming One

Lets have some initiative.

Penny Gronbeck

oh, great... well, I wanted to know about fear....

Penny Gronbeck

uh, 17.

The Flaming One

Damonroony?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

16

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]TJ... may I summon raw Entropy elementals with Entropy 3, Prime 2, Spirit 2?

The Flaming One

[private to Justin Robinson-Prickett] You can "call". They won't necissarily be fast in coming...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]What sort of local spirits are there? And I was creating the bodies for them...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]And are you gonna roll for Sebastian?

The Flaming One

[private to Justin Robinson-Prickett] Already ahead of you on Sebastion.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]Are there electrical sprits about? Pattern spiders? Trash spirits?

The Flaming One

Damon: And as for creating bodies (thats the Prime)... they still have to show... [more successes, faster] The spirit world is vibrant, but seems to have been "cleansed" around here somehow. Or at least, controlled.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Okay. Then I'm just gonna have to more direct.

The Flaming One

Okay, the Spirit, in his home territory, goes first.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

I thought I killed it...

The Flaming One

No, this is the one that just came *out* of the woman [the black miasma].

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Oh.

The Flaming One

Hey, Ivy, what's your current Willpower?

Penny Gronbeck

6.

The Flaming One

Thanks.

The Flaming One

Damon: The blackness flows almost without moving and envolpes Ivy. You can hardly see her.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Tell me when I get to kill it.

The Flaming One

Ivy: Suddently, the light around you begins to fade. There is darkness, and sickness. And confusion. Soak 4 levels.

Penny Gronbeck

what's the difficulty to soak?

The Flaming One

6.

Penny Gronbeck

fail.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

[private]My cutoff is 11, as usual...

The Flaming One

Ivy: Life happens. Stagger and fall to you knees. Take 5 levels of bashing damage.

The Flaming One

4 levels, sorry.

The Flaming One

[private to Justin Robinson-Prickett] This should be wrapped up by then.... :)

Penny Gronbeck

I was going to ask if that was a bonus level for total failure....

The Flaming One

Okay, Damon. Your turn.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Spirit 3. I attack it directly by ripping it apart.

The Flaming One

Lovely. And directly. You go, boy. Diff 6.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

1 Willpower.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

5 successes total.

The Flaming One

You go boy! You reach out with your spiritual hand. The miasma screams, as shreads of it are torn away. However, Ivy screams as well as you do so. The miasma, however, is not distroyed.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"Sebastian? Kill the woman, please."

The Flaming One

Ivy: As you stagger, you feel another throb of pain. Its is intense.

The Flaming One

Okay, Ivy. Do your thing.

Penny Gronbeck

Okay... I'd like to mess her up with life and prime, disrupt her pattern.

Penny Gronbeck

also, I'd like to go for her throat.

The Flaming One

Okay, so you are jumping at her, trying to rip apart her pattern. That a touch attack in the mutant paradigm?

Penny Gronbeck

Kind of a Rogue thing.

The Flaming One

Okay, Make the lunge roll first.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Actually more like Scrambler from Mutant Massacre, but who's splitting hairs?

Penny Gronbeck

10, 7, 5, 4, 2.

The Flaming One

Ivy: You leap at the woman. She sees the intent in your eyes. With surpising dexterity, she jumps out of the way. [Don't forget your beat up]

Penny Gronbeck

(I didn't forget... I'd have 2 more dice if I weren't.)

The Flaming One

Gottchya.

The Flaming One

Damon: Out of the box, Sebastian suddenly appears. The woman's eyes widden a bit as he does so. He seems angry. Very angry.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"You hurt Ivy. That was foolish."

The Flaming One

Sebastian bursts at the woman with a great scream. The woman brustles. As he collides, there is a great impact. The woman is thrown back against the wall near the door, while Sebastian seems a bit staggered as well.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Cool...

The Flaming One

So: Damon is in the spirit world. There is a spirit creature with a black trail connected to Ivy (yes, part of it seems "attached"), the woman is against the wall near her door, Ivy's on the other side (but in the all) of the door, and Sebastian is floating around.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Well, I'm gonna attack the black thing again...

Penny Gronbeck

I'd like to regenerate.

The Flaming One

The woman, panting slightly. "A strong boy you are. Still, you shoudn't be bothering Misses Routterage."

The Flaming One

Okay, we'll do that initiative thing.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

"And you shouldn't be opposing me."

Penny Gronbeck

14.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

11

The Flaming One

The maisma pulses. Parts of it twist, lunging towards both Damon and Ivy. Both of you try a Dodge, if you so desire.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

If I dodge, can I still attack?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Waitaminute... this is Damon. No dodge.

Penny Gronbeck

can I dodge and regenerate?

The Flaming One

Ivy: No problem. That's a no-action magic use (or it is your magical action, but it has an "invisible" physical action.

Penny Gronbeck

cool....

The Flaming One

Damon: A tentical wraps around you. It is cold, but somewhat familiar.

The Flaming One

Ivy: You dodging?

Penny Gronbeck

10, 8, 9, 7, 2.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Good. Now it can't get away...

The Flaming One

Ivy rolls to the side, away from the tentical (and the door).

Penny Gronbeck

what's the difficulty on regenerating?

The Flaming One

The woman, a little dazed, leaps into through the door into her appartment. Almost at the same time, Sebastion shakes his head clear and again rages at the woman. However, at the threshold, he runs into a wall of nothingness. His rage cannot get through.

The Flaming One

Diff 6, Ivy.

Penny Gronbeck

is that before or after my -2?

The Flaming One

Normal difficult is what I quote.

Penny Gronbeck

k... 3 successes, then.

The Flaming One

Ivy: Warmth flows through you. You are well.

The Flaming One

Okay, Damon. YOu're turn.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Samwe shit, different round

The Flaming One

K. Same roll.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

2 successes

The Flaming One

Your power again wraps around the creature. However, this time it is almost welcomed. The miasma seems uneffected.

The Flaming One

Well, then. Damon. Make me a strength roll, please.

The Flaming One

DIff 6.

Justin Robinson-Prickett

2 successes

The Flaming One

You attempt to break free of the tentacle, but it seems to strong for you.

The Flaming One

Well, its almost 11, and Justin needs/wants to go. Shall we leave it here, between rounds?

Justin Robinson-Prickett

That's what one has a poltergeist for...

Justin Robinson-Prickett

Sure. Now is good for me.

Penny Gronbeck

fine with me.

Even Death must die.
